Elastic Bandage Application Guide for Injury Support & Recovery
Materials Preparation
• Medical-grade elastic bandage (width varies by body part: 2.5–15 cm)
• Adhesive clips/hook-and-loop fasteners (avoid knots to prevent circulatory restriction)
• Sterile gauze pads (for open wounds)
Step-by-Step Application Techniques
1. Pre-Wrap Preparation
Clean and dry the skin; elevate the limb to reduce swelling.
Cover wounds with gauze before wrapping to avoid contamination.
2. Anchoring the Bandage
Start 5–10 cm below the injury site.
Make 2 overlapping turns with moderate tension (allow one finger under the wrap).
3. Core Wrapping Methods
A. Spiral Technique (for uniform limbs/torso)
Angle the bandage upward at 30°, covering 50% of the previous layer.
Maintain consistent pressure; avoid gaps or wrinkles.
B. Figure-8 Technique (joints: ankle/wrist)
Wrap diagonally across the joint, forming a "8" shape between limbs.
For ankles: Start at the foot arch, loop around the heel, and cross over the ankle twice.
C. Circular Technique (cylindrical body parts)
Overlap each turn completely for 3–4 layers.
4. Securing the Bandage
Use clips/hooks at the proximal end (never tie knots).
Leave fingertips/toes visible to monitor circulation.
Safety & Best Practices
✅ Tension Control:
Pressure should decrease from distal to proximal (e.g., tighter at the ankle, looser toward the knee).
Test tightness: Skin should stay pink, no numbness/tingling.
